The Gunners thumped Bournemouth 4-0 on Saturday to move to within a point of the table-topping Cityzens in the Premier League.
Arteta already improved his options in the middle of the park with the arrivals of Kai Havertz and club-record signing Declan Rice during the summer.
Now a fresh report has claimed that he is planning to add more depth to his squad by making a move for England international Kalvin Phillips.
The 27-year-old only joined City from Leeds in 2022 but his game-time has been limited at the Etihad.
Phillips, who has played just 161 minutes this term, has only started two top-flight matches under Pep Guardiola.

MANCHESTER United star Antony has been pictured back in training for the first time since domestic abuse allegations.
The Brazil winger, 23, has not played for the Red Devils since their 3-1 loss at Arsenal on September 3.
But he could make a comeback against Galatasaray tomorrow in the Champions League.
Antony was back in England last week and attended a voluntary interview with Greater Manchester Police.
Antony denies the allegations made against him in both the UK and his homeland.
The winger was pictured at Carrington yesterday and could be back in contention for Erik ten Hag's under-fire side against the Turkish outfit at Old Trafford.

It means Erik ten Hag may have to play loanee midfielder Sofyan Amrabat at left-back for the second straight game.
And the door is also open for Harry Maguire and Jonny Evans to line up at centre-back.
Fan favourite Martinez has aggravated a foot injury he sustained last season in April.
He was carried off the pitch in tears during last term's Europa League clash with Sevilla.

That comes after 777 Partners' Brazilian club were hit with a transfer ban by Fifa over late payments.
As reported by The Times, Vasco da Gama failed to stump up the cash to three different clubs amid outstanding debts.
Brazilian media outlet Globo claim 777 were due to provide money for Vasco this month.
But it is understood that payment has been delayed.
And now the Rio de Janeiro side are under a transfer embargo preventing them from signing new players.

CHELSEA travel up the road to face London rivals Fulham with a mission to end their Premier League winless run.
The Blues' loss to Aston Villa meant that they hadn't won any of their last three league fixtures.
But Mauricio Pochettino's men will have the wind in their sails after knocking Brighton out of the Carabao Cup on Wednesday night.
However, Marco Silva's side also booked themselves a fourth-round spot by beating Championship side Norwich at home.
Furthermore, the Cottagers managed to snatch four points off Chelsea during the 2022/23 season.

Earlier this week, the Serie A champions posted two shocking clips, one mocking the Nigerian striker for missing a penalty and another branding him a “coconut” — widely viewed as a racial slur.
Osimhen’s agent Roberto Calenda was quick to release a statement threatening legal action.
But now Napoli have finally broken their silence on the situation - saying "no offence was intended" and the bizarre clips were meant to be "light-hearted".
A statement read: “Calcio Napoli, wishing to avoid any exploitation of the issue, point out that we never wanted to offend or mock Victor Osimhen, who is a treasure of this club.
“As proof of that, during the summer training retreat, the Club firmly rebuffed every offer that was received for the striker’s transfer abroad.

General Discussion / Chelsea bizarrely name player from Premier League RIVALS
« Last post by alexsomsri on September 27, 2023, 11:05:04 pm »
THERE have been so many comings and goings from Chelsea’s bloated squad following Todd Boehly’s £1billion splurge that even those printing the team sheets are losing track.
One Blues bod accidentally listed Andrey Santos in place of new boy Cole Palmer on the printed sheets handed to media and corporate boxes ahead of the game.
It’s embarrassing enough to list two Chelsea players the wrong way around, but gets all the more worrying when you remember that Brazilian Santos is on loan at Nottingham Forest.
Santos, 19, was signed from Vasco da Gama for £11million and has never played a game for the Blues.
The midfielder, who has made just one appearance for Forest so far, was listed accidentally alongside Palmer's No20.
Though the England Under-21 man signed from Manchester City was named in the team Chelsea tweeted out and, more importantly, the list handed to match officials by Mauricio Pochettino's coaching staff.

The Blues skipper on the night, thanks to Reece James being missing through injury, was forced off in the final minute of seven added on.
Chelsea finished the game with ten men having used all their substitutions and Mauricio Pochettino confirmed afterwards that Chilwell, who suffered two separate hamstring injuries last season, had sustained an injury.
He said: "Is Chilwell injured? Yes.
"We need to assess it tomorrow but I think it is hamstring."
Chelsea are already without eight first-team players through injury, including summer signings Christopher Nkunku and Romeo Lavia.
