In order to pay for my project I am planning on going after the largest money savers first. Temperature control. I think if I can wire up a programmable thermostat and control it remotely via the web that it should pay for itself relatively quick.

I know I can do a stand alone but with the crazy schedule my wife and I have I don't think any of those 7 day programmables would cut it.

So what I need is a programmable thermostat for one then everything else to get it up and running via web access but not cut myself short on adding future home automation control. Like lights, security and more complex areas.

Thanks.

Hi there.

If you want to go with HAI, they have the RC2000 (or RC1000 depending on system type) which will soon have ethernet connectivity via a module (not yet released) that might do what you want. That would allow you to easily add a OmniPro to you system in the future to control everything else as well as the thermostat.

Good luck and post back what you end up doing!

Do you know of a compatible thermostat? I figured all of these systems had access via PC software. I have seen apps online and even apps that were build into Vista's Media Center.

Thanks.

The common HAI thermostats tie into a controller like the OmniPRO II. There are other thermostats that are controlled via RS232/Z-Wave or ethernet that you can control directly however I don't have any experience with those.
