I'm pretty sure I remember that you have an iPhone Danny. What is your preferred network camera viewer for your iPhone? I have been a Windows Mobile user on a Treo for years now and I use View Commander for remote camera viewing. IVI has been promising a View Commander app for iPhone but I'm tired of waiting.

I'm obviously considering a switch from WM to the iPhone so this is just one topic of functionality that I must verify can work just as well on the iPhone as what I have/use now.

Just curious what you or any of your readers with an iPhone use for network camera viewing. All my cameras can output both MPEG-4 and MJPEG at selectable resolutions and frame rates.

FirstSalvo,

I use Sony high-resolution varifocal CCTV cameras connected to an AXIS 241Q server. Check out my iPhone Security viewer... I provide the HTML for free.

Looks awesome. So its just an HTML page with a URL link to you AXIS server? Are they just JPG screen shots from the cameras or live MPEG-4 or MJPEG feeds? Do you have the HTML page hosted on a Home Server for remote access or is this just setup for home viewing over your wi-fi network?

The way I have it working is the AXIS video server is in my house with a static IP. I then have a server (external) that hosts the HTML files. I also have a JPEG resizer service running on my server that is an ASP script/control and it resizes the images from the AXIS server smaller for the iPhone to download quicker. You don't really need the resizing part (as I don't supply this as part of the free code). Then once you select the camera it auto refreshes every 15 seconds if using WIFI... or 1 second if it isn't.

I've got plans on taking Myro to the iPhone, but that's not for a while...

Thanks,
Danny

Hey thanks for the info and the quick replies. I've been looking closely at HAI here recently so obviously I'm gonna keep an eye on your interface progress. My home auto choice will be based a lot on my thermostat choice and right now the Omnistat2 (which I really like) from HAI pales a little in comparison to my first choice from Proliphix.

What does the Proliphix offer that you like/prefer?

I hate programming a thermostat from the unit itself... combersome, time consuming and SO oldschool so I must be able to program and change settings through a web browser. A built-in web server would be a perk as well so I can get to it remotely from the internet (I have a Windows Home Server so I have dynamic DNS covered). Plus ethernet connectivity is a must. For critical control units a hardwired connection is a must (wi-fi, Z-wave & ZigBee are nice and good for lights etc but don't provide the confidence level I need for say cams and thermostats). The Omnistat2 will have ethernet through a yet to be released add-on module, but even then I don't think it can be programmed through a browser.

Typically, you program the OmniStats through the HAI OmniPro... so you never have to interface directly with the thermostat. I'd recommend you go that route -- that's how you'd control your thermostat through Myro.

I have three OmniStat 2's and don't even use any of the "built-in" programs... the OmniPro II controls it... and I control it from Myro.

Danny

Did you know that properly using a programmable thermostat in your home is one of the easiest ways you can save energy, money, and help fight global warming
