Title: Myro:Home / Myro:Home Helper for iOS / MacOS
Post by: Myro Control on September 17, 2017, 09:57:51 pm
Hello folks -- frustrated like you and a fan of the Haiku Helper and Haiku, I've decided to rebuilt a similar application keeping Weather, Push Notifications, Energy, etc.  I removed some features like scripting and their web interface as that I think was too difficult for people to understand and use but added a couple other features to make up (specific push notification triggers, logging, etc).

I created Myro:Home for the PC years ago and when Haiku came out, I used Myro:Home on my touch panel and Haiku/Haiku Helper on my iOS devices.  The push notifications were the best part... I was sad to see them kill the product.  I am excited to see what they come up with next, but for now I need something to replace it -- so I'm bringing Myro:Home to iOS/WatchOS.

Anyways, Myro:Home Helper is currently in beta testing -- let me know if you are a current Haiku Helper user, I'd like to chat with you.

Myro:Home for iOS is also in final development -- rebuilt all the core connectivity using SWIFT language -- it has a WatchOS 3 app as well where you can trigger your "favorites" easily -- I use it for my garage door, etc.

I'd like to know what features you guys liked from Haiku and what you didn't -- let's not even talk about Spaces. ;)

How much feedback I get will dictate how much efforts I put in releasing to public... currently I'm building this for myself with the idea of putting it in the App Store for others to enjoy/migrate to.

Hi Danny,

Definitely interested in moving to this - I honestly just miss the push notifications.

I also use openhab since it integrates with HomeKit

Thanks,
David

Push notifications are done and working well -- I have HomeKit core completed -- just need to get it "wired" into the MyroHomeHelper code now.

I am a long time Haiku/Haiku Helper on Mac/iOS and desperately want a replacement iOS app to fix push notifications. Count me in. Thanks for working on this.

BTW, if it matters, I have an old HAI Omni controller system in my house with old touchpanels. I control security/alarm (including hard wired smoke alarms) and climate (multiple room thermostats for a hydronic radiant heat system). I do not really care about seeing the weather on my iPhone app. I do need to be able to 'reach in' and control my panel from the iPhone app (turn alarm/security on and off, adjust thermostats). I do use Comcast as my ISP with a dynamic IP. I have DYN service on my Mac @ home (always running), and leave the existing old Haiku Helper app running to be able to monitor the HAI Omni panel and push out notifications. I would pay a lot for new up-to-date functionality to allow a Haiku equivalent iOS app to run on my iPhone X under iOS 11. FWIW, I was actually surprised that iOS 11 did not actually break Haiku, and am glad I can still see and control my panel, but I do miss the push notifications.

YES! Looking for anything to replace Haiku and its vaporware successor. Push notifications died (again) when upgrading our iPhones. Maybe there is yet again another work around but I would rather support (and get support from) an existing product.

Count me in as well.  Really need a replacement for HaikuHelper.  Most important item being push notifications.  Thanks.  SJ

Hi!  I have you all on the list to Beta test -- making good progress on the Myro:Home Helper app.

Currently, we're targeting the app to run on MacOS 10.11 and greater...  Ideally, the latest 10.13+.  Reason for not supporting older versions of the MacOS is that the app is written in the Swift language and that wasn't supported in previous versions.

It can run on a lower powered MacMini just fine and shouldn't consume much system resources.

We're still doing some extensive QA to make sure there aren't any leaks/crashes...

Will let you all know when it's ready in public Beta form!

Hello,
Can you add me to the beta test list too? I am running Haiku/Haiku Helper with my Omni II Pro system and would love to see a more modern implementation with support for iOS and Apple's HomeKit and Siri also Alexa). Your Myro:Home product sounds amazing. Any idea at this point when you anticipate releasing it? Let me know. Thanks

Happy New Year!

Made lots of progress over the holiday break -- squashed lots of bug too.

Push notifications (with custom messaging) and data logging are both complete.

Data logging of any controller object (you enable) to CSV for now — allows for tracking temp changes or zone usage.  Will use that data for ML in the future.

Here is a sneak peek of HomeKit working -- you select the objects you want enabled as HomeKit accessories.

Hi Danny,

I'm glad to see that you're making progress.  My need for a new solution became more urgent today... I've been using Growl to push notifications from HaikuHelper since iOS push stopped working, but for some reason that I have yet to figure out, Growl also stopped working early this morning.  I don't know if they're having server issues on their end or if something else is broken, but now I have no notifications, and that's a big problem!

How close do you think you are to letting some of us beta test your new app?

Very close — I can release the helper as a download but for the iOS app I’ll need to release it via TestFlight.   The iOS app (for now) is just a simple one that scans the QR code from the helper app and pairs to the notification service.  That will allow you to test the push notifications on your iOS device.

What version of MacOS are you running?  You can send me an email or create a support ticket if you want to communicate about your specifics.

Update: Myro:Home Helper has been in QA (running continuous) for the last couple weeks to make sure there aren't any memory leaks and it's stable enough for Beta release.  Have also tested different types of connection issues to make sure it gracefully reconnects.

So far it's passed -- almost ready to release to a small group to test further.

Thanks!

Hi -- yes, added a few more people to the beta testing... that said, unfortunately, I can count the number of interested people on all my fingers and toes that have contacted me about being interested in this project.   It seems based on what I can gauge, this is a fairly limited user base?

Don't fret, this is still very much a pet project of mine as I want it for my own home use (have been using it for months myself) -- it just may not move as quickly as say we had 100's of folks knocking at the door.  Can you help spread the word?

I would be willing to pay a good amount for a good app, so maybe you get fewer interested parties but make up for it in revenue.

Patiently waiting.....

@JPP, that is an option.   I'll add your name to the beta list.  I've already expanded it to a wider audience and once I get those folks testing out the Push Notifications with the helper app, I'll begin the next phase which is the iOS app (which can be used with or without the helper, obviously sans notifications).  Thanks for your interest!

Will have more updates in the next few months...

Thanks for making the app.

A couple of things:

1. I installed the iPhone app. It found my Omni Pro II and downloaded all of the configuration. (I was able to watch it as it went by.) But, I can only see the thermostat and security items. Is there any control of lights, outputs, etc?

2. In regards to this forum. The style of captcha that you are using is extremely unreadable. I am using Chrome on a Win10 laptop.

Thanks

Joe

Hi Joe!

1) The free version only does what you mention.  The paid (subscription) version includes a 14-day trial and will be full featured.

2) I know, it's a pain, but it also keeps the spammers at bay too.

Cool on #1.

Not cool on #2.

2.1 My point was not to eliminate the captcha. Just use a different captcha because I cannot read the captcha. I have to refresh it a few times to get a version that is readable. Maybe its just me, but it is a real pain.

2.2 Will I always have to answer all of the questions as well as try and interpret the captcha for every post?

2.3 I cannot figure out how to notify me when a topic is responded to. So I received no notice when you answered my post. (I figured thsi one out. :)

These 3 things combined will eventually tire me out and I will cease to use this forum. I just wanted you to know.

Thanks

Joe

I am testing this and I'm very pleased with what I see so far. My biggest concern is the lack of ongoing support or number of end-users driving the product.

Before purchasing, I do have a few questions. I have it configured on my PC and most everything is working. Here is what is not:

1 - IP cameras, I am using Hikvision and my initial testing is not going well.

2 - The stocks information, is this modifiable and if so, where? All I see is a spinning wheel for some reason.

3 - I don't quite understand the pay model. If you purchase the PC-based My:ro complete, does that entitle you to install the front end on multiple PCs attached to the same HAI Omni system? Also, is the iPhone app subscription based only? What are the limitations if you elect not to be a subscriber?

Thanks in advance for developing this product. It is very much a niche application but for people who use and depend on it, it's a welcome sight.

Thanks!  I started Myro Control in 2009 and the PC app was the first product -- I use it in my own home.  That said, the PC app never got commercial success and thus I haven't kept it updated and have moved on to the MacOS suite of Myro:Home (Helper and iOS/WatchOS app).

1 - IP cameras, I am using Hikvision and my initial testing is not going well.
The PC app only supports JPEG -- I'd use the iOS app instead.  That uses either MJPEG, JPEG in a custom written viewer or RTSP using VLC.

2 - The stocks information, is this modifiable and if so, where? All I see is a spinning wheel for some reason.

I'll look into this -- the data license could have expired.  Again, please use iOS instead unless I see an uptick in PC interest, I can dust off the project.

3 - I don't quite understand the pay model. If you purchase the PC-based My:ro complete, does that entitle you to install the front end on multiple PCs attached to the same HAI Omni system? Also, is the iPhone app subscription based only? What are the limitations if you elect not to be a subscriber?

I will be releasing a new website soon that should remove the confusion... when I launched Myro:Home for PC, I planned on direct sales but then the iPad and iPhone came out and essentially killed the PC application market because people expected $0.99 apps.   So for the iOS app, in order to keep this project going I'm using a subscription model.  The free version gives you security control and that's about it.   The subscription model unlocks all features as long as you are a supporter/subscriber.

Thanks in advance for developing this product. It is very much a niche application but for people who use and depend on it, it's a welcome sight.

Yes, it's a very niche market -- I wrote these apps for myself and thought others would want it as well.  As you know, writing code for yourself (family use) vs commercially selling it are two different things... the amount of effort I've had to go through to polish the app and QA is orders of magnitude higher than if I were to only use it myself.  I know people will have issues with pricing, but I value my time and want to be able to keep this project going if there is a business model behind it.

Thanks for your support!

One thought to provider you with more money.

It may be too late but if you build the IOS app as a PWA you can then host it yourself, not pay Apple for their ridiculous fee, and it will also work on Android.

Just a thought.

Thought about that, but I wanted (and have further plans) to utilize Apple's capabilities, specifically Siri Shortcuts, WatchOS and CoreML.  I am also personally more aligned with Apple's privacy mindset (keeping data on device) especially given the extremely personal nature of our homes.   If I really wanted to make money, I could provide the app for free and sell all the home use and customer data... but that is not inline with Myro Control's business.  I just want to provide great software/capabilities and in return people support that mindset with a reasonable yearly payment.   Paying Apple for handling the transactions and continued development tools I feel is reasonable on their part.

I haven't downloaded the app for an iPad yet. Is it any different? From what I can see the iPhone app doesn't have stocks and the camera info is unavailable, I assume because I am not a subscriber.

So just to confirm, If I become a subscriber, I can install on an unlimited number of iPhones and iPads connecting to the same HAI Omni system?

No, the iOS app is complete different application and design.  The PC version was to be used as a touchscreen replacement, I use to bundle it with an in-wall touch screen.   The iOS app is more for on the go but can be used in-wall, etc.   The stock and weather is not part of the iOS app as those require expensive licenses which people would never pay for as they come as part of iOS.

So just to confirm, If I become a subscriber, I can install on an unlimited number of iPhones and iPads connecting to the same HAI Omni system?

Can't say "unlimited" but you can install on as many devices Apple allows for as part of their home sharing plan.

Aarggh! Unfortunately I can't test on an iPad. It looks like the app requires IOS 10 or better. While I have a few iPads laying around, they are fairly old, the newest runs 9.x but that's it.

Guess I'm stuck with the PC app only.

Yeah, just cannot support anything older than iOS 10 because Apple changed so much -- I'd need to essentially support two different codebases.   Way too few "customers" to justify it...

Hi! Sorry you are experiencing crashing, I know that can be frustrating!  I just need a little bit more details so I can issue a fix...

Can you create a support ticket here so I can get more details: https://myrocontrol.com/support (https://myrocontrol.com/support)

And I can get you access to the latest beta builds.

Thanks!

Also, I suspect you are non-USA based correct?  I have a fix related to international date/time issue... I can send you the new beta version to test.

Created a ticket. No, I *AM* a US user. The helper app works fine under 10.13.6 (both running on a Mac Pro) but that's not where I need to run it. Is it written in Swift? I tracked down a text field anomaly that needs to be done a certain way to support 10.11 users in an app I am working on. A chance in a million that we would be seeing the same issue here but...

Thanks for the super quick direct support on tracking this 10.11.6 macOS bug down. I know the update still needs to be pushed to the official App Store but otherwise I am up and running on the interim build which is all I needed for now.

How does the 14-day trial work? I've tried the free version, but now only see options to purchase either a 1-month or yearlong subscription.

If you have never “subscribed” you will get a 14-day trial... if you selected free, it will display without the 14-day but when you actually select one it will give you a 14-day trial.

I just went to download the home helper. Is it correct that it will cost $99?

Thanks

Joe

Yes, the Myro:Home Helper is $99...  I appreciate the support and hope to continue providing the HAI/Leviton community with extend functionality.

Sorry, I didn't mean to imply that it was too much. I have purchased a license for my iPhone and I was expecting just a bit of code to allow push messages.

I assume this does more than that? Is there a feature doc somewhere?

The app store description and images should provide enough details... haven't had a chance yet to shot a video.  Essentially, the $99 is for HomeKit accessory bridge feature -- consider the rest "free".
